Ex-Miners, Bruin ready forSaturday’s Optimist 51st All-Star Football Classic
A pair of former Nevada Union High School football standouts and one from Bear River will snap down their helmets and pads one more time as they prepare for Saturday’s 51st renewal of the Sacramento Optimist All-Star Football Game. The contest will be played at American River College with kickoff between the North and South All-Stars set for 7 p.m. The game is played each summer to help raise funds for the Optimist Foundation For the Handicapped project at Camp Ross Relles located near North San Juan. Playing for the North All-Stars from Nevada Union will be quarterback Chad Mason and Brian Milhous Jr., a safety. Joining the NU duo will be Bear River quarterback-running back C.J. Crausby. The North All-Stars will be coached by Mike Morris of Rio Linda while the South is being coached by Dave Johnson of Union Mine. Other top players suiting up for the North All-Stars include Ricky Thompson (WR), Doug Banks (FS), Jameel Medlock (DE) and Justin Toma (LB) from the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. II champion Grant Pacers. Del Oro, meanwhile, will have tight end Robbie Cook, offensive lineman John McLemore and linebacker Chris Hixon in the contest. Tickets are $10 for general admission and children age 6 and under will be admitted free. |
