Del Oro, NU Show The Way

The Del Oro JV football team finished the 2009 season right where they started - at the top of the foothillpreps.com's football poll.

The Golden Eagles - who were 10-0 last season as freshman - left no doubt on who was the best JV team in the Sierra foothill league this season as coach Jerry Van Lengen's Black and Gold completed a perfect 10-0 campaign.

Del Oro's outstanding season came in a year where there was a top-heavy facor in the foothills area of strong JV squads as Bear River (10-0) and Colfax (9-1) also had plenty to crow about.

Meanwhile, in the Frosh ranks, it was Nevada Union leaving no doubt as who the topped ranked team was as the Miners went 10-0, won the Delta Valley League title and along the way routed by three touchdowns, it'c closest challenger, No. 2 Placer.

Here's the final football polls of the 2009 season:

JVs

1. Del Oro (10-0) - Despite key injuries and position changes, Golden Eagles perservered. Del Oro sophomores are now 20-0 on gridiron in two seasons.

2. Bear River (10-0) - In any other season Bruins may have been a notch higher. Team wasn't challenged in winning Pioneer Valley League.

3.Colfax (9-1) - Falcons had one bad game - a 27-8 loss to Bear River - or Green and White would have been perfect.

4.Nevada Union (7-3) - After slow start, Miners came back strong to win Delta Valley crown.

5.Placer (7-3) - Hillmen stumbled at season's end, dropping two of final three.

FROSH
