El Dorado County School Wins Classic

Rolling Hills of the El Dorado Hills area posted a perfect 4-0 record to claim the championship of last weekend’s Warrior Classic 8th Grade boys basketball tournament hosted by Weimar Hills School.

A total of sixteen teams from Placer and Nevada County along with squads from Fair Oaks, El Dorado Hills, Davis and Valley Springs competed in the two-day event which saw squads vying for an automatic berth to the prestigious Crescent City Tournament of Champions slated for Del Norte County in March.

Rolling Hills, which won the El Dorado County large school division this just completed late fall season, defeated Newcastle, Loomis, Franklin and host Weimar Hills to claim the crown.

Two of the most exciting games in the tournament came in Saturday’s winner’s bracket semi-finals with Rolling Hills nothcing a 35-29 win over Franklin of Loomis and Weimar Hills following 10 points from Jack Baldoni, nine from Michael Wilson and eight by Jordan Balser in a 40-34 win over Barrett of Fair Oaks.

Colfax’s Bulldogs also played in the tournament and played two competitive games falling to Pleasant Valley on Friday and Foresthill, 44-29, on Saturday. Providing spark for the ‘Dogs in the Foresthill game were Dave Campbell with 13 points and Bailey Bean with 11.

In other action of note,  Forest Lake Christian captured the 7th place trophy of the White Division with a 48-44 win over fellow Nevada County Athletic League member Union Hill. Chase Augustino’s 14 points and 13 by Luke Jordan paced the winners.

Jacob Yarborough’s five markers and three by J.J. Griffiths also added punch. Mike Tapia’s 19 points and 13 from Jake Berger topped Union Hill.

Pleasant Valley also fared well in the tournament posting a 2-1 mark and finishing in 5th place in the White Division. The Vikings ended play with a 35-31 win over Loomis. Jakob Freele’s 18 markers and 12 from John Jones paced PV.
