Bruins, Hillmen, Eagle JVs All Improve to 5-0

Quarterback Dallen Huetters completed only one pass last Friday night but it was good for a  37 yard first quarter touchdown pass to Harley Suaers for a touchdown that helped the Bear River JVs get on their way to a 28-6 win over Lindurst.

The non-league victory improved Bear River’s season mark to 5-0.

Bear River also received scores from Josh Toft who scampered in from 9 yards out and  Devaughn Lofton who added a three yard touchdown effort. 

The Bruins final touchdown was taken in by Johnny Cassar on a three-yard effort. Bear River plays at Whitney this Friday.

Placer 35 El Dorado 7 – The Hillmen traveled to Placerville and came home with the Pioneer Valley League win and improved to 5-0 in the process.

Leading coach Rick Foley’s Hillmen were Jordan Rawls who scored a pair of touchdowns and Joe Mangino, Colton Davenport and David Daniel who also found the end zone one time each respectively. Daniel’s score came on a touchdown pass from Johnny Foley.

Rawls led the Hillmen ball carriers with 95 yards on 10 carries as Placer totaled 287 yards on the ground while Foley passed for 114 yards.

On defense, Tyler Graves had a good game which included a fourth quarter interception off a tipped pass by Daniel. Foley was also excellent on the defensive side of the ball along with linebacker Casey Sabins.

Nevada Union 27, Franklin 0 – Nevada Union’s junior varsity ventured to Stockton and  pitched a shutout in the win over the Yellowjackets. The Miners tallied a pair of defensive scores as Jake Hofheinz took back an interception for a touchdown and Kyler Malarie recovered a fumble in the end zone for another score.

Top defensive standouts in the win were Conner Keith with 10 tackles, Gabe Humphers with eight and Malarie with five.

Bradley Spangler and Humphers also added rushing touchdowns for the Miners, who moved to 3-2 with the win and will host Valley on Friday.

Del Oro 41, Vintage 0 —  The Golden Eagles tuned up for Friday’s big Sierra Foothill League opener with Granite Bay by easily handling the Crushers from Napa. Del Oro, now 5-0 on the season, got an early boost in the game when Russel Smith ran 69 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Del Oro quarterback Bobby Heatherington threw touchdown passes of 27 and 31 yards to Alex Bertrando and also found Nick O’Sullivan on a 35-yarder as the Black and Gold led 27-0 at halftime.

Bertrando also returned an interception 14 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and Dominic Piazza scored the last touchdown on a 2-yard run.

Colfax 22, Whitney 6 – The Falcons bounced back from a tough loss at Bear River on Monday to tame the Wildcats. Hunter Owens rushed 18 times for 186 yards and scored on a 49-yard touchdown run and quarterback Nolan Karbowski added 67 more yards on 12 carries and also scored a touchdown as Colfax improved to 4-1 with the win.

Sam Quinlan added Colfax’s other touchdown on a two-yard fourth quarter run while Zonley Looman’s one-yard run accounted for Whitney’s score.

Defensive standouts for the Falcons included Zac Coffman, Cameron Fisher, Jeremy Dawson and David Mowbray.
