Power Failure Halts BR-NC Majors; PV Still Alive

A power failure Monday evening in the Nevada City area forced a postponement of the scheduled District 11 Area II winner’s bracket semi-final game between Bear River and Nevada City.

The two teams will try again at Pioneer Park this evening at 7 p.m. The winner will then advance to Thursday night’s rescheduled first Area II championship game.

Bear River advanced into the semis with an 11-0 win over Grass Valley on Saturday while Nevada City clipped Sierra Foothills of Colfax, 8-5.

In the one Area II game that was played before the power went off, Penn Valley turned the tables on Sierra Foothills, 10-0, in an elimination game.

Penn Valley hurlers Beau De Pois and Cory Cesak teamed to stop SFLL’s bats on just three hits in the shortened four-inning game.

Leading PV at the plate was Travis Hansen who was a perfect 3x3 with three runs driven in.

Penn Valley, now 2-1 in the tournament, will play the loser of tonight’s Nevada City-Bear River game Wednesday at 7 p.m.
