Wildfire capture Yuba City tourney
The Nevada County Wildfire 12U girls softball team went a perfect 5-0 en route to winning the 6th Annual Scholarship Tournament held in Yuba City this past weekend. Saturday's pool play saw the Wildfire winning all three games. In the opener, the Nevada County squad knocked off the Chico Starz 12-2. Melanie O'Brien pitched a 2 hitter for the win while adding a two run homerun to aid her cause. Shyanne Parrish went 2 for 2 with a two run homer of her own. The Wildfire then eked out a nail biting 9-8 victory over the Sierra Buttes Thunder in game two. Kayla Lynch earned the complete game victory on the mound. Reid Smethers and Alex Scicluna each had 2 hits for the winners. In their final pool play game the Wildfire beat the North Valley Bombers 10-1. Kayla Lynch once again went the distance on the mound for the win. Shyanne Parrish lead the bats with three hits, while Melanie O'Brien and Reid Smethers each added 2. Sunday morning elimination play found the Wildfire facing the Nor Cal S.W.A.T. Cheyanne Ramos was impressive on the mound allowing only 1 hit in a 10-2 win for the Wildfire. Torri Parman and Shyanne Parrish each had 2 hits in the victory which advanced the Wildfire to the championship game. The Nevada County Wildfire finished off the competition with an 11-3 drubbing of the Redding Rebels. Kayla Lynch took to the mound in the finale and picked up her third victory of the tournament. The Wildfire bats were hot in the championship game as well led by Torri Parman with 2 hits, including a solo home run. Shyanne Parrish and Brittany Campbell each added 2 hits for the champions.
