Three Jr. Miners' squads - the Mighty Mites, Peewees and Midgets - will open first round post seaosn play in Lincoln Saturday. Oct. 26, 2009 NU will send three to Lincoln For Playoffs The Nevada Union Jr. Miners will send three teams to the Sierra Youth Football Conference’s playoffs which begin Saturday. All three NU playoff teams will play opening round games at Lincoln High School on Saturday. The Jr. Miners’ Mighty Mites will play Lincoln at 9 a.m. followed by the Peewees playing Ponderosa at 1 p.m. and the Midgets meeting Foothill at 5 p.m. In recent action, the NU Midgets moved to 5-2 on the season with their 41-0 win over the Bear River Bruins. NU’s defense played an a strong game allowing no points and forcing six turnovers. A lot of credit should be given to the Miners’ defensive line for plugging holes and forcing the Bruins to throw into the Miners dangerous secondary. Mo Nieves had an outstanding game coming away with 9 tackles including three sacks. Jake Berger had two interceptions, one which he returned for atouchdown. Jason Murray also had an interception and a caused a fumble which was recovered by Ryan Owen. Also checking in with strong games were Gareth Noxon and Dylan Conger both had with pass picks and four tackles each. On the offensive side of the ball the line blocked great allowing the Miners to successfully run and throw the ball. Jakob Freele had both a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown, which was completed to RyanZuccaro with a diving effort. Mo Nieves led all rushers with 130 yards and onerushing TD. Brandon Lopez also ran for 85 yards and also had a TD.
