Jr. Falcons roll over Vista Del Lago foes

The Colfax Jr. Falcons made it two clean sweeps in a row as the local youth football teams posted four Sacramento Youth Football League wins over the Vista del Lago Eagles of Folsom last Saturday at Colfax High School.

The four Jr. Falcons’ teams will be in action again at home this Saturday when they host the usually strong David Jr. Blue Devils. Game times are 11 a.m. for the Jr. Peewees; 1 p.m. for the Peewees; 3 p.m. for the Jr. Midgets and 5 p.m. for the Midgets.

Here’s a rundown of last week’s games:

Colfax Jr. Peewees 18 Vista del Lago 6 – Zane McDade and Marcus Avila got the Jr. Falcons rolling with early touchdown runs and Colfax never looked back in throttling the Eagles.

Defensive standouts in the game included Tyler Nickerson with a fumble recovery, McDade with five tackles and a pair of fumble receoveries, Anthony Griggs with a fumble recovery and four tackles, Avila, Will Besler, Skyler Saavedra, Dallan Trentman, Braydon Bean, Logan McGlothlin and Mason Ahrens.

Trentman provided the Jr. Falcons with a big boost when he ripped off a 60-yard touchdown run giving the Colfax team an 18-6 cushion. Other nice runs were turned in by Ryland Heimann, McDade and Avila.

Colfax Jr. Peewees 46 Visa de Lago -  Quarterback Jack Baldoni was five for seven in the air for 126 yards and three touchdowns as the Jr. Falcons breezed past the Eagles.

Baldoni threw touchdown aerials to Tim Rawlins, Anthony Severson and to Carrick Hoffart as the Jr. Falcons built a 33-0 halftime lead.

Also scoring for the Colfax gridders were Rawlins with a 31-yard run, Severson with a 40-yard pass interception return and Marcus Jackson on a 40-yard run.

Baldoni also passed 60 yards to Dalton Bannister for another score in the controlled scrimmage segment of the game. Colfax’s final touchdown came on a run by Sammy LaHaie.

Defensive stalwarts in the win included Jeremy Cabodi, Beau Baggett, Matt Blackburn and Justin Boice.  Jackson, Travis Escobar and Baldoni all had sacks for the winners.

Colfax Jr. Midgets 22 Vista de Lago 6 – The visiting Eagles grabbed a 6-0 lead before the Falcons got untracked and on their way to victory.

After a nifty 44-yard punt return by Henry Freer deep into Eagles territory, Chancy Trentman tallied the first Jr. Falcons’ touchdown on a run that tied the contest.

With the score still tied in the fourth quarter, Freer fielded another Vista de Lago punt and returned it the distance for the go-ahead touchdown and a 12-6 lead.

Once again the Colfax defense – with fumble recoveries by Tim Stuck and Patric Neu and an interception by Bailey Bean – continued to keep the Eagles in check during the second half.

Other defensive aces included Justin Kotey with a game high 13 tackles along with Austin Perry, Corey Schlittenhart, Ariel Argueta, Harrison Graves and Sammy Klar.

The Jr. Falcons then closed out their scoring on a three-yard plunge by R.J. Hurley. The offensive line play of Marcus Hoogendyk. Niall Gow and Jake Medeiros was also impressive in the win.

Jr. Falcons Midgets 38 Folsom 0 – Colfax’s offensive line play was impressive as the Jr. Falcons front wall trio of Eric Accomazzo, Brett Fowler and Austin Pachaud helped dominate the visitors.

Hunter Cowens collected four rushing touchdowns on the afternoon while quarterback Austin Young fired scoring strikes to Nolan Karbowski and Riger Lillie.

Karbowski also had a big game returning punts and kickoffs while Dakota Wood and David Wood were yeomen on defense.
