Del Oro JVs Blank Franklin; Improve To 3-0
Capitalizing on big plays from its defense and special teams, the Del Oro JV football team improved to 3-0 on the season by tacking up a 21-0 shutout win over visiting Franklin of Elk Grove. Playing its home opener last Friday night in Loomis, Del Oro got off to a fast start when Nick O’Sullivan took the opening kickoff back 85 yards for a touchdown and a quick 6-0 lead. Alex Bertrando’s first of three successful extra point kicks on the night gave the Loomis lads a 7-0 advantage. In the second quarter, pressure on the Franklin quarterback by Del Oro’s Garrett Collins (3 sacks) and Bayard Seydel led to a pass interception by Austin Soldano. Remarkably, Soldano had three pass pick off in the first half alone. Following one of Soldano’s pass picks, the Golden Eagles used a big 47-yard run by quarterback Bobby Heatherington which set up an ensuing 27-yard scramble for a touchdown by Heaterington . That made the score, 14-0, Golden Eagles at halftime. In the second half, O’Sullivan stopped another Franklin drive by recovering a Wildcats fumble. On its next possession, Del Oro then upped the count to 21-0 when O’Sullivan broke off tackle and busted off a 27-yard scoring run for the game’s final score. His first scoring pass of the game went to Brandon Wooner in the first quarter. Cornerback Johnny Cassar led Bear River defensively with three interceptions.
