The Golden Eagles improved to 6-0 with the win and will face another tough Sierra Foothill League test Friday when they host an undefeated Roseville team in Loomis at 5:30 p.m. www.wendyo.smugmug.com Oct. 19, 2009 Hillmen, Bruins JV Squads Put Perfect Marks On Line A pair of Pioneer Valley League JV football teams will risk unbeaten records Friday at Lake of the Pines when Bear River’s Bruins play host to Placer’s Hillmen. Kickoff for the big game is set for 5:30 p.m. Bear River improved to 6-0 on the JV season after posting a 35-15 win over Whitney last week while Placer went out of league to hand Capital Christian a 49-12 drubbing to also improve to 6-0. Both Bear River and Placer are each 2-0 in PVL action and trail Lincoln (3-0) by a half-game in the PVL standings. In another PVL game Friday, Colfax (5-1, 2-1) hosts El Dorado (2-4, 0-2) while in a key Sierra Foothill League game, Del Oro (6-0, 1-0) plays host to Roseville (6-0, 1-0). Elsewhere, Nevada Union (4-2, 1-0) hosts Franklin of Elk Grove. Here’s a recap of last weekend’s games: Placer 49 Capital Christian 12- The 6-0 Hillmen weren’t seriously pressed in handling the Cougars. Leading the win was quarterback Johnny Foley who tossed three touchdown passes, two to Tanner Jay and another to David Daniel. Joe Mangino also added a pair of rushing touchdowns while Peter Ho and Colton Davenport each scored once. Bear River 35 Whitney 15 - Trevor McGee rushed for a pair of scores and also added a 65-yard punt return for another touchdown as the Bruins won their sixth straight game. McGee tallied on gallops of 46 and 10 yards and finished with 89 yards rushing on just five carries. Johnny Cassar also had a good game with 77 yards including a 71-yard touchdown jaunt. On defense, Jimmy Bamburg recorded 12 tackles from his linebacker post and Nick Medenwald at nose tackle added six more stops. Colfax 40 Mesa Verde 16 – Shawn Rawlins and Hunter Owens each scored a pair of touchdowns and David Mowbray added another as the Falcons (5-1, 2-1) easily handled the Mavericks at San Juan. Colfax coach Jason Stowers also singled out the efforts of Blake Wright, Adam Etchevery and Paul Johnson for good all-around games. Del Oro 23, Granite Bay 8 — Nick O’Sullivan scored on a short first-quarter run and added a touchdown reception from Bobby Heatherington to help spark the undefeated Golden Eagles past the Grizzlies. Tight end Alex Bertrando caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Heatherington and also booted a 23-yard field goal to give the Golden Eagles the win. Del Oro led at halftime, 17-0. Blake Covey and Scott Craythorn were two of the Golden Eagles’ defensive standouts in the win. Del Oro expects to get a tough test facing an undefeated Roseville JV squad Friday in Loomis at 5:30 p.m. Nevada Union 69, Valley 0 - The NU Miners weren’t seriously pressed in defeating the Vikings in the Delta Valley opener. Josiah Paye hit 7 of 10 passes for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Meanwhile, Dillon Reynolds did a fine job at kicker and nose tackle while Gabe Stephens and Gabe Hakala both shined on the offensive line.
