Grass Valley 9-10s Take Down Auburn, 10-5

There’s four teams remaining in the District 11 9-10-year old All-Star tournament and the Grass Valley All-Stars are one of them.

Playing at Rocklin’s Tri-City Park in the 10-team district wide all-star tournament for Dist. 11, Grass Valley lived to survive another day Wednesday night by fashioning a 10-5 win over Auburn.

“It was a complete team effort all the way,” said Grass Valley manager Craig Fleenor. Good pitching, hitting and defense.”

Grass Valley will now face Rocklin today at Tri-City with game time set for 5 p.m.  Rocklin broke open a scoreless game with Foresthill and scored all of its runs in the last three frames of a 13-0 win in the late game Wednesday.

For Grass Valley, it was a four-way effort on the mound as Brock Grininger, Aaron Fleenor, Austin Butler and Kross Corbett teamed up to turn in a steady yeoman’s effort in collaring the Auburn bats.

Grininger tossed four and a third innings to get the win but scoreless relief work from Fleenor in the fifth and Butler and Corbett in the sixth cemented the victory.

Leading the Grass Valley charge at the plate were Josh Melendez with a pair of hits, Fleenor with a triple, Grininger with a double off the fence and Jonathan Weaver with a key run scoring single.

Butler also had a fine game on defense in centerfield by throwing out an Auburn base runner.
