Hillmen Frosh bounce back, rout Bruins

LAKE OF THE PINES - Placer’s frosh football team scored on its first three possessions here Thursday evening and  went on to post a 40-14 Pioneer Valley League win over host Bear River. Thursday night.

Led by the one-two running punch of Michael Robinson and Isaac Brahce, the Hillmen built a 27-0 lead by halftime before coach Jim Gray pulled his starters in the second half.

Robinson rushed 10 times for 144 yards and scored three touchdowns while Brahce added 130 more yards on 11 rushes and two scores.

Quarterback Casey Yunk also found receiver Bryan Berude on a touchdown pass for Placer’s final score.

On defense, coach Jim Gray singled out fine efforts from Jacob Peek, Jake Lewis, Tony Suverkroop and Eddie Vandedoes.

For Bear River, quarterback Dillon Smith connected with Cody Heard for two touchdown passes. Smith finished the game by hitting on 12-of-23 passes for 136 yards.

Heard had eight catches for 89 yards while Michael Raigoza had three catches for 27 yards.


On defense for the Bruins, Zack Winter was the leading tackler with seven stops and had a fumble recovery. Jake Savoie added six tackles, while Raigoza had five and Eli Allen added four stops and caused a fumble. Teven Kimble had an interception for Bear River and Jeremy Toby blocked an extra-point kick.    

Colfax 28 EL Dorado 8 – at Colfax – The Falcons improved to 4-3 overall on the season and 3-1 in the Pioneer Valley League with the home win over the Cougars.

Austin Mulderrig ran for a pair of first half touchdowns covering 47 and 62 yards while Austin Perry added a third from 27 yards out. Perry also booted a 24-yard field goal.

On defense the Falcons were sparked by Marcus Hoogendyk, Chris Cand and Alex Sinclear.

Nevada Union Frosh Play Saturday – Nevada Union’s undefeated Miners (6-0) play Saturday at 3 p.m. against Franklin at Elk Grove High. The game will be the first of a tripleheader with JVs following at 5 p.m. and varsity action at 7 p.m.
