Finals for NCAL tourney set for Saturday

It’ll be Magnolia vs. Weimar Hills in the 8th grade division and Magnolia vs. Pleasant Valley for all the marbles in the 7th grade division in Saturday’s large school championship games of the Nevada County Athletic League boys basketball tournament.

In Friday’s 8th grade large school semifinals, top-seeded Magnolia stayed unbeaten against league competition by posting a 51-28 win over Union Hill while Weimar Hills, the No. 3 seed, turned the tables on No. 2 seed Gilmore for a 42-30 win and a berth in Saturday’s 7:00 championship game.

In the 7th grade semi-finals, No. 1 seeded Pleasant Valley, trailing 18-8 at halftime,  used a second half rally to force overtime and then pulled out a   38-33 win over Weimar Hills.

The Vikings from Lake Wildwood will face Magnolia, a 43-28 winner over Gilmore in the 5:45 p.m. seventh grade title game.

The small schools championship game will be played at 4:30 and match Cornerstone Christian versus Yuba River Charter.

In the 7th grade third place game at 2 p.m. it will be Weimar Hills versus Gilmore while the the third place 8th grade game at 3:15 matches Union Hill and Gilmore.
