Glazner wins Regional competition

Colfax youth baseball player Ryan Glazner is a phone call away from attending the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game next month in St. Louis.

Glazner, who competes for the Hard 90 baseball program out of Roseville, won the regional competition last weekend of Major League Baseball’s national Pitch, Hit and Run competition.

The Pitch, Hit and Run contest is an exciting baseball skills competition that provides boys and girls, ages 7 to 14, the opportunity to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities.

Now in its 13th year, Pitch, Hit & Run participants can advance through four levels of competition, including Local and Sectional competitions, Team Championship events at all 30 Major League ballparks, and the National Finals at the Major League All-Star Game this July in St. Louis.

Glazner, a graduating 8th grader at Weimar Hills Middle School, vied in competition last Saturday at the Oakland Coliseum where entrants hit off a tee for distance and accuracy, pitch to a strike zone and run on a 20-foot lead off from second base (160 feet) to home plate.

Glazner, who advanced to the team competition at AT&T Park with the San Francisco Giants two years ago, won his age group and especially excelled in the running portion has his time of 6.65 seconds was actually .5 of a second lower than the starting scoring chart time of 7.0 seconds.

Glazner has advanced from local and sectionl competition. He won the sectional event in the won the 13-14 age group at Modesto three weeks ago and is now the team winner for the Oakland A’s. Each Major League Baseball team, (30 total), has one entry in the 13-14 age group.

The top three scores from across the United States will advance to the All-Star game.  A total of 600,000 participants began the competition across the country in four age groups.
