BR, NC Tangle Tonight In Major’s Winner’s Bracket

Nevada City’s Pioneer Park will be the site of tonight’s Little League District 11 Area II winner’s bracket semi-final showdown between Bear River and Nevada City.

Both teams advanced to this evening’s contest with impressive wins over the weekend.

Bear River followed a superb pitching effort from Travis Anderson to throttle Grass Valley, 12-0, while Nevada City proved to be opportunistic in an 8-5 come from behind win over Sierra Foothills.

The winner of tonight’s key game will advance all the way out to the Area II final set for Wednesday night. The victor would also have to be defeated twice to be eliminated in the double elimination tournament.

In Bear River’s romp over Grass Valley, Anderson was dominating in his route-going effort as he allowed just one Grass Valley runner to get beyond second base all game long.

Anderson allowed just two hits and fanned 10 Grass Valley batters. His Bear River defense was also solid playing errorless ball behind their hurler.

Andrew Reiss wielded a big stick at the plate for the winners as he collected four hits including a home run which accounted for five runs batted in on the evening.

Also having a hand in the win were Steven Ertola and Brandon Donely who both banged out three hits apiece.

In another Area II contest game played Sunday night, Sierra Foothills of Colfax outlasted Newcastle-Foresthill by an 18-13 count.
