Seven Hills Takes Pair From FLC

In a light slate of Nevada County Athletic League boys middle school basketball action on Wednesday, a trip to Lake of the Pines proved fruitful for the Seven Hills 8th and 7th grade teams.

The Raiders made the long trek from Nevada City to Forest Lake Christian and returned home with a pair of wins which kept both squads in the upper tier of their respective NCAL races.

In the 8th grade game, the Raiders’ running game proved too much for the Falcons to handle as Seven Hills posted a 61-43 win.

Meanwhile, in the 7th grade test, Seven Hills held on for a 36-35 win to take over sole possession of second place in the loop standings.

In today’s NCAL games, Gilmore travels to Magnolia and Pleasant Valley plays at Union Hill. 8th grade games begin at 4 p.m. followed by the 7th grade tilts at approximately 5:15.

Here’s a recap of Wednesday’s games:

7Hills 36 Forest Lake 35, at Lake of the Pines – After starting the season with three straight setbacks, Seven Hills held on for its 6th straight win Wednesday and in the process took over sole possession of second place in the league chase. Seven Hills started out fast behind the hot shooting of guards Trevor Humphreys and Matt Demele as they jumped out to a 15-6lead. However, the Raiders then went ice cold in the second period by scoring only 2 points going 0 for 6 from the line and missing several lay ups. Forest Lake took advantage of the Raiders’ lapse to cut the lead to 3 at the half, 17-14. However, Trevor Humphreys and Matt Demele heated up again as the two combined to score all 12 of Seven Hills’ points in the third quarter to give the Raiders a 29-22 lead. Forest Lake once again scrappedback into the game and cut the lead to one point with 12 seconds to play. The Falcons then had three shots to win it before the final buzzer sounded but couldn’t get one to fall.  Seven Hills was led by Humphrey's 14 and Demele's 12. David O'Brien lead Forest Lake with 16 points and Kyle Soriachipped in with nine.
